Nick’s Marathon will be held from January 21st – 23rd, 2011!!!
It’s almost time for the 2011 Nick’s Marathon! That means another solid weekend of good times, non-stop video games, and raising money for three amazing charities.
Nick’s Marathon is an annual video-game marathon fund raising event dedicated to the memory of our friend Nicholas Capobianco, who lost his battle with leukemia and passed away at the age of 28 on June 12, 2008.
Nick’s two favorite things in life were spending time with his friends and playing video games. Growing up, most of the time we got together to hang out involved playing games. Even as we matured and our interests began to change, we were still always able to bond around the latest console. Even as Nick’s health started slipping, he still took comfort in gaming, ideally with his closest friends.
Since Nick’s passing, we decided to start a charity in Nick’s memory – Nick’s Marathon. A bunch of Nick’s friends get together every year to play co-op video games (you can see the list of games we’re planning on playing here) all weekend long, with no breaks. The 2008 and 2009 marathons each raised $3,000, and this year we are hoping to top that number by raising $5,000. It’s an ambitious goal, but we think we can do it with your support! Technically this is the 2010 marathon, but we decided that the event worked best after the holidays when more of us could get together, as Nick would have wanted.
Once again, we’ll be raising money for three great charities: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Child’s Play. It’s simple: pick whichever charity you want to give to, click on their button on the DONATE! page, and make your donation directly to the charity. That’s it! All donations made will be earmarked to be in Nick’s name. We appreciate contributions of any size, but all donations of $100 or more will receive a complimentary Nick’s Marathon tote bag.
The 2011 Nick’s Marathon will be taking place from Friday, January 21st through Sunday, January 23rd. There will be a live feed of the video game, as well as a live webcam of us playing the games here at nicksmarathon.com. Check back here then, watch us play, send us some messages, and help support our cause!
